Our Congregation

Redeemer began in 2003 as a church plant of Resurrection Presbyterian Church in Matthews (then called Matthews Orthodox Presbyterian Church). After two summer internships with Resurrection, our organizing Pastor was ordained and began worship services with a group from Matthews of about 40 folks. We are larger than that now but still a small congregation. We have been blessed to help plant a church in Gastonia (Reformation OPC) and see one member through seminary training. We have known the joys of congregational life over those years: births and deaths, folks coming in and moving away. We have enjoyed the constancy of the Spirit and a deepening faith. We hope you will come and worship the Lord with us either as a passing visitor or someone seeking saving faith and a church home.

Church Leaders

Cliff and Gillian Blair

Pastor Cliff Blair

Cliff has been the Pastor of Redeemer since it began in 2003 as a church plant of Resurrection Presbyterian in Matthews. He is a graduate of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He and Gillian met in Art College in Savannah, Georgia where they were saved and married. Cliff worked as a commercial artist for 10 years before going to seminary. They have four grown children and five grandchildren.

Jeff Dennison and family

Elder Jeff Dennison

Jeffrey Dennison has been an elder at Redeemer since 2017 and a member of the church since 2012. He and his wife, Stephanie, of 22 years have four children, Elle, Tyler, Graham and Samantha. Jeff’s bloodlines in the OPC run fairly deep. His father, Charles, was an ordained minister in the OPC for over 25 years and he served as the denomination’s historian for almost 20 years. Jeff’s grandfather, Robert Graham, was a founding member of the OPC in 1936. Robert Graham’s daughter (and Jeff’s mother), Virginia, is also a member of Redeemer. Jeff and his wife are both teachers at Covenant Day School, where Stephanie teaches 1st grade and Jeff teaches apologetics to the seniors. Having grown up in Pittsburgh, he has raised his children to be loyal devotees of the Steelers and Penguins and even the Pirates (against his better judgement). He is also a bit of a cinephile.

Elder Nathan King

Nathan was one of the founding officers when Redeemer began in 2003, and serves as Elder. He and his wife, Kristina, have one son, Ethan. Both Nathan and Kristina come from ministers’ families. Nathan’s father, Rodney King, is a retired OPC pastor living in Orlando, Florida. Kristina’s father, Dr. Leonard Coppes, is also a retired OPC pastor living here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Nathan recently retired from law enforcement after 30 years, and now coaches for a local competitive soccer club.

Matt and Cassie Browning

Deacon Matt Browning

Matt had been a member of Redeemer since 2009, and enjoys exercising dominion over God’s created order by growing vegetables and grilling animals. Matt is blessed by his wife Cassie, and kids Jack and Lucie. The Brownings live in Weddington, NC.

Matt and Carriel Posvar

Deacon Matt Posvar

Matt has been a founding member of Redeemer since it began and has been a deacon since 2005. He is a local business owner/operator of a design/build/maintain landscape contracting firm in Charlotte. Matt and his wife Carriel met and were married in Indiana. They enjoy being active in the church and have a daughter Georgiana.
