Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for demanding a sign, declaring that no sign will be given except the sign of Jonah. Jonah’s days in the belly of the fish point to the only sign that matters: Christ’s death and resurrection. This is the sign that gives all other signs meaning. This is the sign that demands a verdict of faith and repentance.
